Have
you considered the legal implications of each practice,
policy you implement? How does it really impact the
work place in terms of productivity and employee morale?
Does your current handbook address employee selection,
discrimination and harassment; performance evaluations,
training, promotion a d transfers, downsizing, workforce
reductions and recall rights. Is sufficient language
dedicated to at-will and employment contract issues,
discipline and/or terminations? Are employee privacy
and record-keeping provisions clearly stated and easy
to understand as they relate to surveillance, searches
and intrusions? Have you defined your drug testing protocol
or medical information requirements? Do your supervisors
know what to do and what to ask if they suspect an employee
is working under the influence? During litigation, a
well-written handbook can serve as your best defense
and a poorly written handbook can land you a significant
and costly judgement. That is why it is important to
have your policies and procedures drafted by competent
professionals on a regular basis.
